You Are Not Alone: Support Is Here When You Need It
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — a time to recognize the impact of domestic violence, educate our communities, and remind survivors that help is available.
At YWCA North Central Indiana, we want one message to stand above all others:
You are not alone.
Domestic violence can affect every part of a person’s life. Finding a way forward can feel overwhelming, especially when fear, financial concerns, children, housing, or other circumstances make leaving or seeking help complicated.
That’s why our work goes beyond simply providing a safe place to stay. We meet survivors where they are and help connect them with the support they need.
Support when you need it
YWCA North Central Indiana provides a range of services designed to help survivors move toward safety, stability, and independence, including:
24/7 Crisis Support — confidential support is available around the clock, 365 days a year.
Emergency & Safe Shelter — a safe place for survivors and their children when home is no longer safe.
Personalized Safety Planning — practical strategies and options based on an individual’s circumstances.
Violence Prevention & Education — building awareness, recognizing unhealthy behaviors, and working toward communities where violence is prevented before it happens.
Survivor Advocacy — support and guidance as survivors navigate difficult decisions and systems.
Economic Empowerment — resources and support that can help survivors work toward greater financial stability and independence.
Children & Family Services — support for children and families affected by domestic violence.
Community Resources & Connections — connections to additional services and resources that can help with the next steps.
You don't have to have all the answers
Reaching out for help does not mean you have to know exactly what comes next. Sometimes it starts with a conversation. Sometimes it means making a safety plan. Sometimes it means finding a safe place to stay.
Wherever you are in the process, you deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn more, recognize the signs of abuse, support survivors, and take part in creating safer communities.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
